Ferdinand III (II of Aragon), King of Naples and Sicily 1504-1516

MIR 117/2; Fr-828, PCGS-graded MS-62

Rare; perfect obverse centering, choice surfaces and gold color, the classic Renaissance portrait most impressive.

Ferdinand’s two royal titles appear on this coin, one on each side. In 1501, Ferdinand signed an agreement with Louis XII of France to partition Naples between them. The agreement soon fell apart and, over the next several years, Ferdinand fought to take Naples from the French, finally succeeding by 1504.
