Cert #8672 29583081
Coin Number 149
This is one of the finest of the few surviving business strikes known out of the original 100 struck. The obverse has numerous circulation marks near the center and these somewhat limit the grade, otherwise this coin could grade 5 or more points higher. The fields show traces of prooflike reflectivity, particularly on the reverse. Light orange gold in color on both sides. Noted expert David Akers mentions “two examples of horrendously low quality” of this date, which are not reported in the PCGS or NGC data, perhaps these are damaged in some way and not gradeable. Otherwise this example here is one of the top 9 or so known and certainly deserves the title of the King of the with Motto Eagles.
